Birthdays, prison, and dark chocolate.

Having a January birthday is both awesome and not awesome. Awesome: presents two months in a row! Not awesome: not getting presents for 10 months afterward.

Awesome: Greg and I both have January birthdays. Double awesome: combined birthday outings!

This year for our combined birthday weekend, we went to San Francisco. I had only been once before, and Greg had never been. We walked for miles (and miles and miles), saw Alcatraz (Azkaban, anyone?) and ate fish and chips.

On the ferry to Alcatraz after Greg got checked out by a gay couple. He's taken, dudes.
Look at this guy. So 25.

Golden Gate Bridge

Exercise yard. Apparently inmates like baseball, handball and cigarettes.

I did not like the cell blocks. Claustrophobia and dirty toilets.

Prison life did not suit Greg.

The audio tour was super cool. We saw where and how escape attempts happened, what daily life in Alcatraz looked like, and why we never want to go to prison.

We like outside.

We kept an eye out for Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and missiles.

After Alcatraz, we went for a walk along the Embarcadero. We stopped into the Musee Mechanique to see the old arcade games and machines.

Greg arm-wrestled the creepy machine

Dat concentration

Victory!

Ghirardelli and an espresso dark chocolate sundae. I think this is what heaven looks like.

Artsy-fartsy.
After a long day of walking, audio tours, contemplating prison escape attempts, arm-wrestling, walking, fish and chips, sourdough bread, seagulls, walking, and fun, we went home. We said we shouldn't lay down, but we did anyway. We promptly fell asleep for 2 hours and missed dinner. That is what real adventure looks like.
